The Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN) is a mandatory document for all shipments of cargo destined for Niger. The ECTN must be obtained prior to shipment and must be presented to Nigerian Customs upon arrival of the cargo in Niger. The ECTN is obtained from the Nigerian Shippers' Council (NSC) and is valid for a period of six months from the date of issue. The ECTN must be renewed every six months in order to maintain its validity. The ECTN is used by Nigerian Customs to track and trace cargo shipments and to assess duties and taxes due on imported goods. The ECTN is also used to monitor and control the importation of prohibited and restricted goods into Niger. The ECTN system was introduced in Nigeria in 2009 in order to streamline the import and export procedures and to reduce the time and cost associated with shipping cargo to and from Nigeria.

An ECTN, or Export Control Tracking Number, is required for all shipments of products subject to export control regulations from Niger. Exporters must apply for an ECTN at least 5 working days prior to shipment. The ECTN must be applied for through the online application system. Shipments of products subject to export control regulations without a valid ECTN will be subject to delays and may be refused. To apply for an ECTN, exporters will need the following information:

    - A copy of the commercial invoice
    - A copy of the bill of lading or air waybill
    - A list of the products being shipped, including HS codes and product descriptions
    - The importer's name and address
    - The destination country
    - The reason for the export (e.g. for repairs, for exhibition, for personal use, etc).

Once the ECTN has been applied for, the exporter will receive a confirmation email with a tracking number. This tracking number must be included on the shipping documents and must be presented to customs upon arrival of the shipment.
How much does an ECTN cost?

The price of an ECTN is based on the package's worth. For shipments worth less than 5,000,000 CFA francs, the ECTN will cost you 5,000 CFA francs. For shipments priced at more than 5,000,000 CFA francs, the ECTN will cost 10,000 CFA francs.

What is the purpose of an ECTN to Niger?

Use an ECTN to track shipments and verify that all export documentation is valid. Another use for it is to figure out the taxes and tariffs owed on shipments.

How do I acquire an ECTN?

ECTNs could be available from the shipping firm. You must provide the following information:
    -The consignee's name and address
    -The port of destination
    -The scheduled arrival date.
